The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has seen thousands of businesses close and at risk across the country — but it hasn’t stopped Sisters Cafe opening on the south coast in Portsmouth.

Sisters Cafe, a family-owned business led by Sarah Simmons, will launch on October 31, despite a possible local lockdown pending.

Following the Government’s announcement of the new tier system, Portsmouth has yet to be put into tier 2 or 3, but several areas of the country — particularly in the north — have been put into a stricter, localised lockdown.

A report from the National Restaurant Association has found that one in six restaurants has closed in just half a year, amounting to more than 100,000 restaurants shutting down.

But Sisters Cafe owner Sarah revealed why they have decided to open the new cafe, despite the uncertain financial times following the coronavirus pandemic.

“Sometimes the most challenging times are the best to start something new,” said Sarah. “I’m so focused on the risks, probably more than I would be in a flourishing market.”

If there is another lockdown, Sisters Cafe will continue to operate a takeaway service to the local residents.
