Some football fans have been given an early Christmas present after it was confirmed that a limited number of supporters could return to grounds for the first time since March.

Following Monday’s announcement of the Government’s new lockdown measures, the tiering system for each part of England was announced on Thursday, which has seen the majority of the country enter Tier 2 or Tier 3.

From December 2, up to 4,000 fans will be allowed into sporting venues if in Tier 1, and only a maximum of 2,000 in Tier 2 areas. No fans will be allowed to enter grounds which are located in Tier 3 areas, it has been confirmed.

Most areas in the South have been put under Tier 2 restrictions, with the majority of the Midlands and North being subjected to Tier 3 restrictions.

The Premier League hasn’t seen fans since the end of March and in September it was announced that across the 20 top-flight clubs, over £700 million had been lost.

How Premier League teams will be affected:

  • Arsenal - up to 2,000 fans
  • Aston Villa - No fans allowed
  • Brighton - up to 2,000 fans
  • Burnley - No fans allowed
  • Chelsea - up to 2,000 fans
  • Crystal Palace - up to 2,000 fans
  • Everton - up to 2,000 fans
  • Fulham - up to 2,000 fans
  • Leeds United - No fans allowed
  • Leicester City - No fans allowed
  • Liverpool - up to 2,000 fans
  • Manchester City - no fans allowed
  • Manchester United - no fans allowed
  • Newcastle United - no fans allowed
  • Sheffield United - no fans allowed

  • Tottenham - up to 2,000 fans
  • West Brom - no fans allowed
  • West Ham - up to 2,000 fans
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers - no fans allowed

Clubs have started rolling out their ticketing process for the return of fans, with many clubs opting to use a balloting system to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity of seeing their team play live.

Supporters who are lucky enough to get their hands on a ticket will have to follow a code of conduct when in attendance.
